The artist
Juan Pabrua
Watercolour · Drawing · Graphic design
Juan Pabrua came to painting through drawing, and through graphic design — the discipline of deciding what a page says before deciding how it looks. Watercolour kept the drawing and loosened the hand.
The work is experimental by temperament: pigment is allowed to move, edges are allowed to fail, and the paper is allowed to have an opinion. What stays constant is the subject — everyday Filipino life, ordinary things looked at long enough to become worth the paper.
He paints what moves him. Gratitude is the method: attention first, then the brush.
“It moves me. It brings me joy. So I paint it.”
The record
29 paintings are on this site. Four carry the title their file carried; the rest are Untitled. No date, medium, size or account is recorded for any of them yet — the page shows that gap instead of filling it, because a guessed year is not a memory.
A artist profile for the watercolor society of cebu is being prepared.
